Seeker In the Wild
Posted Feb. 20, 2015 by Angelo VermeulenSeeker is a worldwide series of co-created starship sculptures that evolve over time. It's a community art project that invites people to fundamentally rethink the future of human habitation and survival by interconnecting technology, ecology and people. Since 2012 five different versions of the project have been realized in Slovenia, the Netherlands and Belgium. New Seeker versions are currently in pre-production in both Chile and Kosovo. Each new version builds on the history of the project, and as such Seeker is an ever-evolving global art work.
During the fall I made a field trip to the Atacama desert in Chile to scout for partners and potential locations. One of the goals of the project is to co-create with indigenous communities and integrate their vision on sustainability into the starship’s design. I also led a Biomodd workshop at the Factoria GKo art and technology space in Santiago. The results of the workshop were integrated in an art exhibit at Factoria GKo meant as open call for Seeker in Atacama. Currently the Chilean Seeker team is securing funding, and the project is scheduled to start in March/April 2015
In October, project collaborator Rrita Jashari gave a joint presentation with me about Seeker at the EU Information and Cultural Center in Prishtina, Kosovo. Together with artist Shelbatra Jashari they met up with a whole range of potential local partners. This is the first time Seeker is being set up in a post-war area, and this will most probably further shape the project. Valbona Shujaku of re: PUBLIC has joined the local team as producer, and is now coordinating fundraising efforts.
